Unearth Stories of the Canal

June 1 – July 13, 2026 | Mondays at 10:00 AM

A Summer Discovery Program for Children

The Ohio & Erie Canal didn’t just move goods. It moved families, ideas, trades, and stories — right through this village, on the water running alongside these buildings.

This summer, children ages 5 and up are invited to unearth those stories for themselves — one Monday at a time, inside the authentic 1830s buildings of Historic Roscoe Village.

Each weekly session brings a different layer of canal-era life to light through hands-on activities, historical exploration, and the kind of discovery that makes summer learning feel like an adventure rather than a lesson.

Six sessions. Six stories. One summer that connects your child to Ohio history in a way no classroom can.

$1 per child, per session — made possible by the Coshocton Foundation

About the Program

Unearth Stories of the Canal is a six-week summer discovery series rooted in the history of the Ohio & Erie Canal and the village it built. Each session is designed for children ages 5 and up, led by educators inside the historic buildings of Roscoe Village, and connected to the National Summer Reading Program theme: Unearth a Story.

Sessions are hands-on and place-based — meaning children aren’t just learning about history, they’re inside it. The blacksmith shop, the one-room schoolhouse, the doctor’s office, the craftsman’s house: these are real 1830s buildings, and each one becomes a classroom for the hour.

Accompanying adults are part of the experience — this is a program designed for shared discovery, not drop-off.
