About
Roscoe Village Foundation
Our Mission
To steward Historic Roscoe Village and carry forward the canal‑era values of commerce, connection, and community in ways that enrich people’s lives today.
Commerce
Catalyzing merchants, entrepreneurship, and investment across the village, canal corridor, and surrounding area that sustain the region’s economic life and keep its historic streets and landscapes meaningfully active.
Connection
Creating experiences that bring people together around Roscoe’s shared history and place.
Community
Stewarding Roscoe as a welcoming village where people gather, learn, and celebrate.
Our Vision
America’s Canal Town, Ohio’s premier canal‑era village, where commerce, connection, and community thrive.
Our Strategic Pillars
Our stewardship is guided by five strategic pillars that describe how we live out the mission in practice.
Our Role
Roscoe Village Foundation is the nonprofit organization entrusted with the long‑term stewardship of Historic Roscoe Village. We provide preservation leadership for the district, safeguarding historic buildings, guiding interpretation, protecting architectural integrity, and stewarding the village’s public‑facing identity.
Historic Roscoe Village is the place.
Roscoe Village Foundation is its steward.
We serve visitors, local residents, educators, and partners who see Roscoe as both a learning place and a living village.
The District Today
Historic Roscoe Village includes both Foundation‑stewarded properties and independently owned businesses operating within the village and canal corridor. The Foundation guides the historic integrity, interpretation, and cohesive identity of the district, while catalyzing merchants, entrepreneurship, and investment that keep the area economically vibrant and aligned with its historic character.
Preservation Leadership & Civic Partnership
The City of Coshocton has established a Historic Preservation Committee to help safeguard the district’s architectural character and guide appropriate development. Through coordinated preservation standards and civic partnership, the historic identity of the village remains protected and strengthened for future generations.
Buildings in Our Care
Roscoe Village Foundation directly stewards and interprets key historic structures within the district, including:
- Dr. Johnson’s House
- Dr. Johnson’s Office
- The Schoolhouse
- Daniel Boyd’s Craftsman Shop
- The Montgomery Visitors Center
- The Hay Craft Building
- The Leather Shop
- Huck’s Tavern
- The Tollhouse
These buildings anchor the district’s historical narrative, demonstrating how preservation, education, and local enterprise intersect within a historically grounded environment.
Elevating the Future
As part of our long‑term commitment to preservation leadership, Roscoe Village Foundation has launched the Elevate the Legacy Initiative, a strategic master‑planning effort designed to guide the next chapter of Historic Roscoe Village.
This initiative is supported by leadership commitments from the Robert and Carolyn Simpson Donor‑Advised Fund, Marion Sutton, Wes and Ann Simpson, and the Eugene and Marianne Lautenschleger Donor‑Advised Fund at the Coshocton Foundation. Elevate the Legacy honors the entrepreneurial vision that restored Roscoe in the 1960s and positions the district for continued cultural and economic impact in the decades ahead.
Our Commitment
Historic Roscoe Village endures because stewardship is intentional.
Commerce built it.
Entrepreneurship restored it.
Strategic stewardship sustains and elevates it.
