Helmsman for the Monticello III
Job Title: Helmsman for the Monticello III
Location: Lake Park, Coshocton, OH
Vessel: Monticello III
The Helmsman for Monticello III is responsible for safely steering and navigating the vessel under the direction of the captain. This role is critical in ensuring passenger safety, maintaining smooth vessel operation, and delivering an enjoyable and professional experience for guests aboard the historic canal boat.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate the helm (tiller or wheel) to steer the vessel along designated routes
- Follow navigation instructions from the captain with precision and attentiveness
- Maintain awareness of canal conditions, obstacles, and other waterway traffic
- Assist in docking, undocking, and maneuvering the vessel safely
- Monitor speed and directional control to ensure passenger comfort
- Communicate effectively with the captain and crew during operations
- Assist with basic vessel maintenance and cleanliness as needed
- Support crew in emergency procedures and safety protocols
- Provide friendly interaction with passengers when appropriate
Qualifications:
- Ability to follow directions and maintain focus for extended periods
- Strong situational awareness and attention to detail
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Basic understanding of boating or willingness to learn (training provided)
- Must be reliable, punctual, and safety-orientedd
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior boating or maritime experience
- Knowledge of canal systems or historic vessels
- Experience working in a customer service or tourism environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Ability to use upper body strength to control the helm
- Capable of lifting moderate weight (up to 40 lbs)
Work Environment
- Outdoor, water-based setting
- Seasonal position with varying schedules, including weekends and holidays
- Interaction with the public in a tourism-focused environment
Guest Experience Associates
(Seasonal/Part-Time, April–October)
Bring our living history experience to life through tours, hands-on crafts, guest engagement, and memorable moments for families and school groups. If you are friendly, outgoing and have the gift of hospitality, this is a great role. We are flexible with the time frames for the right person.
Guest Experience Associates
Job Title: Guest Experience Associate (Part-Time / Seasonal)
Location: Historic Roscoe Village, Coshocton, OH
Pay Rate: Starting at $11.40 per hour
The Guest Experience Associate plays a key role in creating memorable, educational experiences for visitors. This position combines customer service, hands-on activities, and storytelling to interpret daily life during the 1800s canal era. Team members interact directly with guests, share Roscoe’s history, and help create a welcoming and engaging village atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide friendly, engaging customer service to guests of all ages
- Deliver informal and formal presentations on 1800s canal history and life in Roscoe Village
- Interact with visitors through storytelling, demonstrations, and hands-on activities
- Assist with artisan demonstrations and learn skills such as basic blacksmithing and historic crafts
- Participate in festivals, special events, and educational programs
- Answer guest questions and facilitate discussions about historical topics
- Support daily operations and help maintain an authentic, welcoming environment
- Sell daily ticket sales
Qualifications:
- Interest in history, education, or public engagement
- Strong communication and public-speaking skills
- Ability to interact positively with diverse audiences
- Customer service experience preferred
- Willingness to learn historical content and hands-on skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks during busy events
- Some technology skills are helpful
- Supervisory or leadership experience is a plus, but not required
Schedule & Employment Details:
- Part-time / Seasonal position
- Day shift availability
- 15-20 hours per week

(Part-Time, starting in March)

Landscape Crew Worker
Job Title: Landscape Laborer (Part-Time / Starting in March)
Location: Historic Roscoe Village, Coshocton, OH
FLSA Status: Non-exempt, hourly
This job requires mowing, weeding, watering, digging holes, planting, and leaf removal.
Duties and Responsibilities:
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Follows all safety procedures and policies.
- Mows and trims lawns, trims shrubs, and cultivates.
- Assists in pruning, weeding, and deadheading the Village’s gardens and potted plants.
- Cut and hang annuals and perennials.
- Digs holes for plants and trees.
- Mixes fertilizer or lime with dirt in the bottom of holes to enrich soil, places plants or trees in holes, and adds dirt to fill holes.
- Attaches wires from planted trees to stakes to support trees.
- Hauls or spreads topsoil and mulch.
- Waters lawns, trees, and plants.
- Spreads straw over seeded soil in bare areas and plants flowers in garden areas.
- Performs clean-up duties as required.
- Assist with fall cleanup and leaf removal.
- Help with fall and Christmas decorating.
Qualifications and Requirements:

- 18 years old+
- Driver’s license required.
- Ability to use garden tools.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and frequently lifts and/or moves up to 30 pounds.
- Some knowledge of trees, shrubs, and perennial care.
