The History of the John M. Compton House c.1838
During the canal era, this historic building was the home of the Compton family. After serving in the Civil War, John M. Compton, became a teacher. Later, he became an attorney in Coshocton and practiced law at the firm of Lee and Pomerene. He also served as mayor of Coshocton for two terms, 1872 and 1874. A former owner of this building was a postmistress and had the post office in the front.
Today this historic building houses the village jeweler, G.A. Fisher Diamond Jewelers. This third generation family-owned business has been in Historic Roscoe Village since 1991 and offers fine diamonds, fine jewelry, clocks, watches and many unique gifts. This is a shop you won't want to miss.
