Bring the Canal Era to life for your
students!
As a living history community, Roscoe Village is
dedicated to teaching the cultural, natural and historical influences of the
Canal Era. Programs are designed for
groupings of 15-20 students. Name tags and two weeks advance registration is

Educational Programs
Living History Tour--All
grade levels. (2 hours)
Journey through a restored 1800s Ohio &
Erie canal town. Learn about the canal in our Exhibit Hall,
complete with realistic dioramas and a working lock model.
Experience the world of the Canal Era craftsmen, learn about
medicines of the time at the doctor's office, take a lesson in
our one-room school, see the trappings of 1800s daily life in
our doctor’s house, and much more.
Simple Machines Grade 5 (2 hours)
You may choose to have
a simple machines focus on your Living History Tour. Discover why and how the inclined plane,
wedge, screw, wheel and axle, lever and pulley were used in the
Canal Era. Learn how the practical needs of the homemaker and
the craftsman led to the use of simple machines and the
development of new inventions during the 1800s.
